Premise

A Day in the Life of Bob was my first major undertaking. It was the first game I tried to make in Game Maker, but it took several tries before I actually created a working engine. The game is a life simulator heavily inspired by the Flash game, StickRPG, but with its own unique twist. Plenty of surprises and numerous placed to explore will ensure a fun playing experience. This is, by far, my most popular game.

History

A life simulator/RPG was the first type of game I tried to make with Game Maker. "A Day in the Life of Bob" was actually started three or four times before I came up with the version you play today. Originally, the entire game was made with drag-and-drop, but I slowly learned code as I was working on the game, and converted most of it to GML. It's hard for me to remember when development first began, but I want to say that it was sometime in late 2003. It seems so long ago now! It didn't take long for me to get the basic engine down, but adding all of the different buildings took a great deal of time, especially considering my technique for making the game (entirely hard-coded). It was a great learning experience to make this game, and I learned a thing or two about game graphics and music as well.

Influences

A Day in the Life of Bob was heavily influenced by the Flash game StickRPG. It has also been compared to an older game, Jones in the Fast Lane (to which StickRPG drew its inspiration).
