Premise

Xochitl (pronounced "sue-chill," it is Nahuatl for "flower") is an original arcade game that I made for the first ever Reflect Games Game-in-a-Month Competition (and placed second in). The object of the game is to water all the flowers of your garden before being eaten by bugs. Bombs can be collected in order to protect yourself. The game can get pretty challenging, but it has received mainly positive reviews.

History

I had heard about the Reflect Games competition, but was originally uninterested in making a game (I was going to be away for the last week, due to vacation). Nonetheless, I whipped a few sprites together one night and decided "why not?" Because of my late start, I was forced to complete the game in about a week and a half. Work on the game went very smoothly, and I was happy with the results. The game ended up taking second place in the contest, tying with another game.

Influences

Xochitl was not influenced by any specific game(s), but it did draw inspiration from the classic arcade games. Pacman, Centipede, and Q*Bert come to mind.
